Abstract

The Police and the fire brigades ensure citizens' security. Using a radio network, they have to communicate fast, easily and securely. This paper describes the main requirements, service requirements, gateway requirements and organizational requirements of a digital radio network for public safety and security. The technologies for a digital radio network, that is to say TETRA, Tetrapol and GSM/UMTS, are described and compared in regard to how they fulfil the requirements. Afterwards, costs estimates are explained.
It will be shown that Tetrapol is to be preferred.
